WHAT IS ORGANIC?
Organic refers to how foods and agricultural products are produced, but it’s also a way of life. At Borden®, it’s about committing to give your family the healthiest, most nutritious products that are produced in the safest possible way. It’s farmers taking special care of their cows by
feeding
them only the best organic feed, providing them with spacious pastures for grazing and never treating them with artificial growth hormones, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or antibiotics. It’s a dedication to sustainable farming practices that work in harmony with nature and help preserve our land for generations to come. And, it’s producing our products fresh on our Texas farms so that you are drinking the freshest organic
milk available.
What makes Borden Organic milk, well organic?
All Borden Organic products carry the USDA organic seal. This means that our products meet or exceed the exacting standards for organic production. To be considered truly organic, Borden Organic milk has to qualify in these areas:
- All of the cows that produce Borden Organic milk are treated humanely. They are never treated with antibiotics, artificial growth hormones or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). This helps to avoid undue stress on the animals, keeping them happier and healthier.
- All of the cows that produce Borden Organic milk are fed certified organic feed. In order for feed to be certified organic, the land where it is grown must not have been treated with any pesticides or synthetic fertilizers for at least three years. This protects people, animals, land and the environment.
- These cows are pastured daily in their natural environment on fresh grass with exposure to plenty of fresh air and sunshine. A government- approved agent inspects the land where our organic herd grazes. To certify the land as organic, our farmers must not have applied any prohibited substances to their land for three years prior to the herd grazing on them.
Natural vs Organic
If something is grown naturally does it make that product organic? You’d think so right? But actually the process of having a product become certified organic has a strict set of federal guidelines that the grower or processor must meet or exceed to be in compliance.
Once the organic seal is on a product it means that the ingredients and production methods have been verified by an accredited certification agency as meeting or exceeding USDA standards for organic production. Natural, unlike organic, does not have to go through any federal approval process. It simply means the product was produced without the use of artificial ingredients, preservatives or dyes. When looking for organic products, check for the USDA organic seal because only products with 95-100% organic ingredients can display the seal.
